About our Work

In this concept exploration for Smashbox, McGregor reimagines the brand’s Los Angeles studio heritage through the refined precision of photographic equipment. Each piece draws direct inspiration from the tactile beauty of manual cameras — from the machined grip details and metallic lens-cap textures to the polished chrome and debossed typography reminiscent of engraved camera branding. The result is a cohesive visual language that merges technical functionality with elevated simplicity. The collection introduces a modernist dialogue between light, reflection, and material. Polished metal contrasts with soft-matte blacks, echoing the interplay between gloss and grain found in both film and skin. The accompanying merchandising units reference makeup mirrors and gallery installations — circular halo lighting becomes an architectural frame, presenting each product as both tool and art object. Together, these designs reposition Smashbox as a house of crafted modernism — where beauty meets engineering, and every surface tells the story of precision, light, and Los Angeles studio culture.
