McGregor’s reinterpretation of the classic piggy bank for OTHR transforms a childhood ritual into a moment of design poetry. Crafted from 3D printed porcelain, the seamless spherical vessel rests upon a machined steel ring — a refined base that doubles as a hammer, inviting both restraint and release. The act of saving becomes performative; the act of breaking, ceremonial. Within the shattered porcelain lies a surprise — a tiny 3D printed pig, a whimsical keepsake revealed only when the bank’s purpose is fulfilled. This gesture of reward hidden within destruction captures McGregor’s balance of playfulness and precision: an object that unites permanence and impermanence, restraint and joy. At once sculptural and symbolic, the OTHR Piggy Bank celebrates design as ritual — where material, motion, and meaning converge.
